Project Brief
Salzburg Airport intends to comprehensively modernise the passenger terminals and organised an architectural competition calling for terminal extension concepts. The terminal development should be completed by 2032 and due to the continuous airport operations, the construction measures are to be implemented in stages. AC took part in the competition in the capacity of an airport planning expert and partnered up with Moser Architects and UNStudio. AC developed functional layouts for the terminal extension focusing on clear passenger flows and intuitively arranged processors and functions, as well as open lines of sight. The concept combined departure and arrival processing functions in one building. The phasing programme was aimed at minimising disruptions to ongoing operations during the construction period.
