Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) is a planned intermodal transfer hub in the heart of Poland integrating air, rail and road transport. The project is envisaged to cover an area of 3,000 ha and include an international airport projected to handle 40 million passengers per year in the first development phase as well as a railway node and a bus terminal. One of the consortia competing for the position of Master Architect led by Kohn Pedersen Fox brought us into their team as aviation experts. Our contribution to the project entailed an in-depth review of the design brief in search of an optimization potential with respect to the master plan and terminal requirements. We suggested alternative solutions for the terminal configuration and the phasing of the terminal works. Our input included an airside plan, functional terminal layouts, passenger flows as well as an aircraft stand and gate allocation.
